Quiche and asparagus

Now that we have 4 girls giving us eggs every day, we are eating lots of eggs. Quiche is a favorite. This one had some sauteed greens added to the mixture. We have been eating lots of greens also.

Do you like asparagus? It is either a love or hate. Curt and I love asparagus. Our kids hate it. That's fine as I don't want to share. This dinner was a donation from the girls and from the garden.

Photo's of new Chickens

When Coco spent the night in our house.
She was able to squeeze through. lol

The little chicks kept peeking out to look at me. Think it is cool that the Bantam breed has an instinct to take care of other chicks even if its not their own. Will take pics of their new mini coop when it is finished.

New additions!

Hi,
Tuesday, I picked up a baby Silkie Bantam chicken from a friend. I was surprised when my wife said she would be ok with it living in our house. She was afraid it would be too lonely. We named her Coco, since she is brown and black. We had to keep an eye on her (hopefully) while our cats were inside so it wouldn't "dissapear" lol. Our dog was outside the window, and must have been able to hear the chick chirping, because she was getting excited.  The chick also made a few escapes from her box during the night and the next day.

Wednesday, I went back to my friends house, and picked up an older Silkie Bantam, and another baby Silkie Bantam. The Older Bantam is white(We are thinking of calling her Marshmellow, or Snowball.), and the second baby is all black (Forgot what name we came up with.).  Coco came with me, and was happy when she saw the Mommy Bantam, and the other baby. During the trip back home, the three seemed to get along well, and when I got home, I looked and the two baby chicks were under the mommy staying warm.

Thursday, It pretty much rained all day, and the 3 new chickens stayed in the garage. The other Chickens we have stayed in their setup, and kept knocking over their water bowls! ><  Hopefully we can get an enclosure made in our garage soon to hold younger chickens, possibly add more spots for chickens to lay, and one day a goat.

What we plan to do.

Hi,
Our little farm now, includes 10 chickens, 6, are a little over a month old. In June we will be getting 25 chickens from a farm, which hopefully will include Americana, and Auracana's (sp?). My parent's and I are also interested in getting honey bee's, and a dairy goat. For the Goat, we will definitely need to work on our fence, so that the Goat doesn't get out into our neighbors yards. We also have a little garden of veggies, and spices. Will get my mom to take pics of the garden, and get the descriptions of it all to post later. My parents also started making kombutcha tea, which is good to add into our smoothies.

Pictures of our Farm 1

This is Buffy, she is the oldest of our chickens. She likes to be petted, and has let people hold her.
Here's our two Barred Rocks, we call them Salt & Pepper.

Our six chickens we bought from Tractor Supply in April. We recently moved them out of the garage, and into the chicken run area so the other chickens can notice them, and help them to get along well. They are waiting for their turn to run around.
When I let them out, it made me think of kids running out to recess. lol

Here is Red, she is either a Rhode Island Red, or Red Star. She is the smallest but lays the biggest eggs. Will take a picture of her eggs, and normal store eggs later.
Close up! She looked at me when I took this picture like I was giving away her position.
New wood chips that were just dropped off, they smell great.

Trying to show the Chickens where water can be found lol.

 I found a snack! ^^
This is the entrance to the chicken coop area.

Pictures of our small set-up so far.
